Mental Health

Mental health is one of our greatest assets. It helps us focus at work, overcome obstacles, and get along with the people around us to be well, and stay well. Whether we are dealing with stress, a divorce, or a natural disaster, it’s important to learn what’s affecting our mental health. Individuals living with mental illness may be struggling to find treatment, manage their symptoms or medication and cope with life's challenges effectively. There is ample cause for hope as they are not alone, help is available, mental health conditions are treatable, and individuals can take practical steps to recover a healthy life. In Fresno County, the Department of Behavioral Health is working on a number of behavioral health fronts (both mental health and substance use) including direct services for older adults, underserved populations, and those receiving Medicare services.

The Fresno Suicide Prevention Collaborative's Suicide Prevention Plan brings hope to residents affected by mental distress and their loved ones. By focusing on prevention, education, wellness and recovery, and by supporting and building on the lived experience of others, we can build on the resilience of our community. If you or someone you know is in crisis, contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
